The history of Swains of Stretton dates back over 100 years, when we were founded by the great grandfather of the current director.
We began in the forestry industry, hauling logs with horse drawn trailers from the forests of Wales and Shropshire, thence branching into the transportation of barytes from the mines at Snailbeach and gravel to the rail link at Minsterley, as well as transporting coal back to the mines.
Over the next three decades, the company was involved in timber haulage and agricultural contracting. During the 50s, we moved into livestock haulage. Our first involvement in long distance transportation services was in the 1960s. During the 1970s, we became one of the pioneer companies of international haulage.
